After four wonderful years of developing and growing Cascadia, Melissa Palma will be leaving to pursue her next career goals. We are so grateful to her vision and all the hard work that she put in to create our thriving school! She will always be a part of our community and we wish her the best as she embarks on the next part of her career as an educator and administrator.
Lucina Armstrong Michaud has purchased the business from Melissa and will serve as our new director. Lucina and her family have been attending Cascadia for three years and she has worked on the advisory council for over a year. Her background is in serving families, both in education and healthcare. Lucina is a homebirth midwife and lactation consultant, but is currently not practicing as she focuses on raising and homeschooling her three amazing children. She has multiple experiences running organizations and most recently served as the Director of the Birthingway Breastfeeding Center, which provided lactation care to clients and training to student lactation consultants. She also co-founded and managed an English school for children, youth and adults in Merida, Venezuela. She is passionate about supporting families, building community, and educating children in a holistic way that nurtures their individuality.
Lucina is committed to maintaining the vision of Cascadia as a thriving community and cooperative of families collaborating to provide safe and healthy opportunities for children to learn, grow, play, and socialize. She will strive to meet the needs of our membership and continue to grow and improve Cascadia over time. Starting in the Fall, Cascadia will be welcoming 5 year olds and Lucina will oversee their integration into our existing program. In the future, she plans to develop a Cascadia junior high program and eventually a high school program as well.
Please feel free to contact Lucina with any questions, comments, suggestions regarding Cascadia Learning Cooperative.
